Closing the Economic Gap

The Durham Business & Professional Chain believes that economic inclusion is critical to the success of any region. Exclusion breeds inequities -- notably lack of opportunity and lack of access to needed pathways to wealth-building. No where is this more telling that in Durham NC where some areas prosper and while others languish.

Durham NC is making impressive development gains but some perceive that the comeback has been at the expense of other neighborhoods and citizens that have not participated in the upswing. Threats of high unemployment, poverty, gentrification and housing/business unaffordability threaten the gains made thus far.

The Chain is committed to increasing economic opportunity, primarily for African Americans who are clustered on the bottom of the economic ladder. Our organization has made "closing the economic gap" one of our priorities this year and we are creating initiatives to foster equitable development for businesses and residents.

You're invited to become a member and join in the conversation along with other thought-leaders, business owners, residents and concerned citizens who will be charting a path to economic prosperity for Black Durham.
